Staff and Parent Board

Our Teachers

Rachel Duncan, our Program Director and Lead teacher, has a B.A. in psychology and sociology and has completed the Early Childhood Education program at Mount Royal University. In a decade Rachel has gained a range of experience from teaching preschool to teaching children, youth and young adults with special needs. Prior to working in our community, Rachel managed the program and taught at Sunshine Corner Playschool in west Calgary. Rachel’s journey with us began in 2007 as our lead teacher. In 2013, Rachel and her husband adopted their newborn son Eaton. Rachel is passionate and dedicated to developing a quality, Reggio-inspired classroom that meets the needs of each child and the community as a whole.

Els Deckers is our Assistant teacher and received her child psychology degree from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. After a brief stint traveling the world as a flight attendant for KLM, she has lived in Canada for the last 20 years. She previously worked in and managed daycares here in Calgary and her youngest child attended the Rosedale Playschool program.  She has a natural rapport with young children and delights in their curiosity and playfulness. She is fluent in English and Dutch and is an avid soccer fan.

Kindergarten Readiness Seminar

One of the biggest questions we get asked is “Do you think my child is ready for Kindergarten?” We want to help parents with this next step by having an evening addressing this question with an expert in the early education field: Heather Kinahan B.Ed, Sc.

Please join us on January 11 at 6:30 pm at the Wild Rose United Church (upstairs lounge).

Chilcare will be available upon request. Email to reserve a spot.
